Writing Awards

Australian Doctor/GPET Writing Awards 


Australian Doctor and GPET are offering two writing awards in 2008 – one for a GP registrar and one for a GP supervisor.
Cash prizes of $1,000 will be awarded for original compositions about general practice training; and the winning articles will be published in the Australian Doctor medical newspaper.
Articles must be submitted no later than 7 July 2008


Eligibility

To be eligible for an award, the author of a submitted article must be a current AGPT registrar or an accredited GP supervisor. 


Specifications

Subject:  The submitted article must be on a topic related to general practice vocational training.
Length:  A maximum of 1,000 words.
Format:  Articles should be submitted electronically in Word in Times New Roman 12 point, unless permission for submission in hard copy is obtained from GPET. 


Judging

The judging criteria include:
(a) Relevance – adherence to the topic of general practice vocational training.
(b) Originality – shedding new light or taking an interesting perspective.
(c) Creativity – narrative flair, use of imagery, metaphor, etc.
Submitted articles will be de-identified and sent to the Australian Doctor/GPET Writing Awards judging panel for “blind” judging. 


Award

A cash prize of $1,000 will be awarded to the authors of the winning articles.  

 
Submission Content

In addition to the article, each submission must contain the following:
·         Title of the article;
·         Name of the author;
·         Address of the author;
·         Phone no or email address at which author can be contacted in July 2008;
·         Name of the author’s RTP.

Award Presentation

The authors of the winning submissions will be notified in July 2008 of the judging results.  The winning authors will be invited to receive their awards at the GPET Convention in Wollongong on 27 August 2008.  If the authors are unable to attend, other arrangements will be made to award the prize. 


Publication Rights

By submitting an article to be considered for an Australian Doctor/GPET Writing Award, each author grants permission to Australian Doctor to publish the article and the article becomes the property of Australian Doctor.
