The 2010 Convention theme was: Clinical and Cultural Competence: Everybody's Business

The following four sub-themes structured the Convention program, creating streams of relevant and associated topics, which facilitated discussion and learning.

Indigenous health training throughout Australia - Focusing on: Lessons learned from IHT that can be applied elsewhere in general practice including multi-disciplinary care, cross-cultural training, community engagement, and policy driving change; how IHT is supported in RTPs and communities; challenges in metropolitan IHT; and the importance of Indigenous knowledge and a two-way learning channel.

Vertical and horizontal integration - Focusing on: V&H integration in the practice setting; educational partnerships fostering integration and development; registrars as teachers; inter-professional learning; and RTP structure and support – where are they headed?

Learning and teaching showcase - Focusing on: Rural and remote training innovations; accepting different learning styles; capability-based training; how do you teach? Showcase your best workshop; college curriculum changes; and academic supervisors and registrars – paving the way for the future.

GPs within their community - Focusing on: The important balance between one-on-one patient care and community care; life-long learning and adapting; leadership – preparing for the needs of future communities; caring for the ‘marginalised’; and GP as people – storytelling.
