Registrars can choose to train in an AGPT accredited Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander health training post which are located in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health/Medical Service, appropriate Torres Strait Islander Health Services and in some instances appropriate State and Territory Government Health Services in the NT and the top end of Queensland.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health training posts are available to registrars at all stages of training although conditions do apply and need to be discussed with the appropriate RTP (see below for contact details). Posts are available in metropolitan, rural and remote areas throughout Australia and provide a unique training environment within the context of comprehensive holistic primary health care. This experience will enable registrars to gain 'real world' clinical experiences through consultations and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients presenting significant common and uncommon conditions which exemplify general practice. In the context of an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander health training posts, registrars also experience a unique cultural immersion no matter where the training post.
