Rural Pathway Checklist
Are you considering a rural pathway training place?
This checklist is a guide to help you find out what it means to undertake training in a rural area and to help you make an informed choice when selecting a training place.
Having a better understanding about the region you are applying to and understanding what it means to be a doctor within a rural environment will help you to have realistic expectations about your time in a rural environment and may also help you to be better prepared when attending an interview. Most importantly, completing the checklist will help to ensure a 'best fit' for you, your family, the local community and the RTP you select.
When selecting a rural pathway training place it is important to remember that a rural lifestyle can differ from that of an urban one. For example, as a doctor in a rural environment you may be more likely to be involved in the community, and as such you may find this intrusive. In addition, you should also consider differences in lifestyles between rural and urban regions, some things that are available to you in your current environment may not be as easily accessible to you in a rural environment.
