AGPT Policies in effect 1 January 2019

Please note the 2019 AGPT Program Policies come into effect 1 January 2019.  Registrars currently on the AGPT Program are still to refer to the 2017 AGPT Program Policies until the 2019 AGPT Program Policies take effect.

Program Policies 2019 - Overarching Document 

The Overarching Document sets out the principles that underpin the 2019 AGPT Program Policies. It also provides information on Medicare Provider Numbers and summarises the key changes made to each of the individual policies. 

Appeals Policy 2019

The Appeals Policy sets out the process for handling appeals lodged by registrars training on the AGPT Program relating to Clinical Decision and Non-Clinical Decisions.

The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) have responsibility for the management of registrar remediations and the consideration of clinical appeals.  The Department of Health will continue to:

  • Receive all applications for appeal;
  • Consider all non-clinical appeals; and 
  • Make the final decision on all registrar appeals.

Academic Post Policy 2019

The Academic Post Policy sets out the circumstances under which registrars may apply for an Academic Post as part of the AGPT Program.

Australian Defence Force Registrars Policy 2019

The Australian Defence Force Registrars Policy 2019 is a new addition to the AGPT Program Policies.  This Policy sets out the requirements for Australian Defence Force registrars training on the AGPT Program.

Complaints Policy 2019

The Complaints Policy is used to manage registrar Complaints related to their training experience on the AGPT Program.

Extension of Training Time 2019

The Extension of Training Time Policy sets out the circumstances under which registrars may apply for an Extension of Training Time on the AGPT Program.

Program Leave Policy 2019

The Program Leave Policy sets out the circumstances under which registrars may apply for leave or deferrals from the AGPT Program.

Rural Generalist Policy 2019

The Rural Generalist Policy is a new addition to the AGPT Program Policies. This policy sets out the requirements for Rural Generalists training on the AGPT Program. The new policy takes effect from 1 January 2019. Doctors interested in applying for the AGPT Program in 2019 (through the selection processes administered by the Colleges in 2018), are encouraged to review this policy now as it provides details for this training in 2019.

Training Accessibility Policy 2019

The Training Accessibility Policy assists Regional Training Organisations to manage training for registrars on the AGPT Program who have a disability. 

Training Obligations Policy 2019

The Training Obligations Policy outlines the training obligations for registrars enrolled on the AGPT Program. 

Training Region Policy 2019

The Training Region Policy sets out how Regional Training Organisations will manage training placements and training facilities within the training regions of the AGPT Program. 

Transfer Policy 2019

The Transfer Policy sets out the circumstances under which a registrar may apply for a transfer between Regional Training Organisations or Training Regions and/or pathways on the AGPT Program. 

Withdrawal Policy 2019

The Withdrawal Policy sets out the circumstances under which a registrar may be withdrawn from the AGPT Program.
